Just found a couple stories on Salon you might like to read. I hope the links work. They are part of a series so look for more this week.

I'm getting excited about the Cultivating Respect Conference PFLAG is holding on January 20, 2012. There are many great presenters. I hope you are all telling everyone you know about the event. We need to get the word out to as many people as we can, as soon as we can.

Just joined and attempted to attend my first meeting today (June 19th) which was higlighted on othe PFlag Calendar.  The only people there were me and another new couple looking for a meeting.  Wondering when the next one will be?

I hope you are all thinking about PRIDE. It is coming up soon, June 24-26.

I'll be hounding begging asking you all to sign up to work at the PFLAG booth over that weekend. PFLAG will also be marching in the parade, so please, have your walking shoes ready.

I was reading something on Huffington Post this morning about the vote in the Presbyterian church. It had two pages embedded in it written by ministers whose minds were changed to vote yes on inclusion. I thought they might be of interest.

Last night I attended the ‘pop rock musical’ bare at the Illusion Theater and highly recommend it. It is the area premiere, so there isn't familiar music, but it is all great.

From the playbill:

"Set in a Catholic boarding school, this poignant coming-of-age story focuses on the love relationship between two boys: Peter, socially awkward and sensitive, and Jason, the golden boy popular jock. Witness the struggles, trials, and tribulations they go through to keep their relationship alive yet hidden, and how their love affects all those around them. bare is a beautiful and heartbreaking story of questioning adults, religion and everything we were ever taught.

(Note: This production contains adult language.)

Now, I have to admit, I know someone in the show, so I am a little bit prejudiced, but that just means you should all go and judge for yourselves.

If you park at the Plymouth Ramp across the street, you can get a 50% off coupon at the Illusion Theater box office when you pick up your tickets.

It is on tonight, this weekend, Monday evening, then next Thursday through Sunday, April 3.

Just found out about a play being performed at the Sabes Jewish Community Center called "Leave" by Matthew A. Everett. It is the world premiere. "Seth is a young Marine serving during wartime. Nicholas is his civilian husband who waits back home. In addition to the strain on their relationship caused by distance and absence, they must hide their love for one another behind code words and secret identities because of the United States military's policy barring gays and lesbians from serving openly." Find out more at  www.urbansamurai.org

The last three performances are tonight, Friday and Saturday nights. Wish I'd noticed the card sooner in the month - would have been nice to let more people know about it. Of course we could say the play is almost 'old news' now, since the ban is going to be lifted, but it is still a good message.

Sabes Jewish Community Center is just off 100 at 4330 Cedar Lake Rd. S., Minneapolis, MN 55416-3798

Southern Poverty Law Center is going to host a free screening of “BULLIED: A Student, a School, and a Case that Made History”. This is a new Teaching Tolerance film about anti-gay bullying and the story of one student who stood up for justice. The movie is being shown on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. The location is Central Lutheran Church, 333 South Twelfth St., Minneapolis, MN, 55404. There will be an introduction by Morris Dees, SPLC Founder and Richard Cohen, SPLC President. Also on the program is Jamie Nabozny, the student who fought for justice, and other guests. You can reserve free tickets at: www.splcenter.org/RSVP as long as they are available. Some of you may remember when we had Jamie Nabozny as a guest at one of our Sunday programs.
Bullied is the seventh film produced by SPLC’s Teaching Tolerance program. Four of the program’s past documentaries were nominated for Academy Awards®, and two have won the Oscar®. Bullied will be distributed to 50,000 schools, free of charge, over the next two years.

New

It's been a tough month as my husband and I were just told by our son who is finishing high school that he is gay.  I am sure there are others out there who have dealt with all the emotions we are.  Our greatest fear is how hard life may be for him.  Don't we all want to save our children from pain?  He is transitioning to college and the whole roommate selection process scares all of us.  He's just beginning to come out and he doesn't want to be tagged as the gay kid and only that but for…
