Deb,

Hello, my name is Jay, and I'm the Health Educator for the Minnesota Transgender Health Coalition.  I lead the Trans Support Group that takes place on Wednesdays from 6pm-7:30, and I need some assistance.

I received an email from an individual that is looking for a support group for family members of trans people.  I saw that you mentioned a group is at 3:45.  What day and where do you meet?  I'm sure that the support group I lead would like this information as well to pass on to their own family members.

Also, for family members on this forum:  feel free to pass on that there is a trans support group that meets *every Wednesday* at 6pm.  At this time, it is only open to trans/gender non-conforming/gender questioning people, but there may be space/times for family-inclusive meetings.  Group meets at "The Exchange", 3405 Chicago Ave South, Minneapolis.

Thank you for your time, and I wish you the best.

Jay

Hi Maggie and Ann Marie. Just a reminder today is PFLAG Sunday with program and support groups. I don't know if you realize there is a support group specifically for transgender issues. This is a place for parents and loved ones to share concerns and experiences in a safe, confidential space. Please join us if you can! The group begins at 3:45. More info on the website.

I would think if your interested, his therapist would be glad to visit with you and give you the information you are seeking.

When I finally came out to my spouse, my therapist wanted to visit with the both of us about my GID. I had already been in therapy for 2 1/2 yrs before coming out to my spouse. By the way she was very accepting and we are still married; 43 yrs this coming Nov.

If you would like to email me seperately, my email is annmarie3214@yahoo.com. I would be able to forward some material to you as well.

Ann

Ann Marie, My child is an adult and had counseling well under his belt before he told me. Suppose he could give me info or get it for me.

Hi Maggie, have you sought therapy for your child yet? The University of Minn has quite a program as well and your therapist will guide you in the right direction.

I am looking for a support group as a parent of a child going thru gender transfer. It is very difficult to 'give up my baby'. I recognize there will be lots to gain with him feeling whole but 'she' was my one and only child. Any direction would be greatly apprciated.

I am disappointed that there are not more joiners to this group! There are so many questions that need to be answered by those just starting their journey.

Thanks for your comments Ann Marie. You offer a welcoming statement to those joining this site. Please know you have many allies seeking to learn more and offer support to all on this journey!

New

It's been a tough month as my husband and I were just told by our son who is finishing high school that he is gay.  I am sure there are others out there who have dealt with all the emotions we are.  Our greatest fear is how hard life may be for him.  Don't we all want to save our children from pain?  He is transitioning to college and the whole roommate selection process scares all of us.  He's just beginning to come out and he doesn't want to be tagged as the gay kid and only that but for…
